My
road was straight, no byways ran
Across my chosen way;
No
sun-hued clouds rose overhead
To change my skies from gray.
Life
rambled on in changeless days
Just how, I never knew;
I
walked within the shaded ways
Ere I knew you.
Now
all is changed. The skies are clear,
And birds sing in the trees;
A
fragrance as from flowered fields
Is wafted on each breeze.
Now
life has joy and love and light,
Love’s skies are ever blue;
And
shaded ways are warm and bright
Since I’ve known you.
