Getting A Line On Spring

I do not wish to hurry spring
     Or wish the time away,
But could I do the simplest thing,
     E’en pen a little lay,
To cheer the heart, now cold and gray,
     That spring is handy by,
‘Twill please the reader, who will say
This lay is not a lie.
