His Violin

He struggled with his violin,–
     “A waste of time, said they;
“The ol’ man better hal’ him in,
     Or he will rue the day.”
          .    .     .   .     .

And when they read, some later day,
     His fame spread far and wide,
They nodded, while we heard them say:
     “Jes’ what we proffersied.”
