Chorus
“I
missed you when you left me, dear,
When you were called away;
I
missed you through the long, long nights,
I missed you all the day.
I
missed you ere the sun went down,
When blue skies turned to gray;
I
missed you then, I miss you now,
I miss you more each day.
I.
A
boy and girl stood by the stream which flowed through meadows green;
The
birds were singing merry songs above the brooklet’s sheen;
The
world was bright, and full of joy, all nature was aglow,
But
in each little heart there lay a silent note of woe.
For
they had met to say good-bye, she was to move away,
And
so he left her by the stream that golden summer day.
And
ere a lonely week had passed he sent to her a note,
And
though he was a boy at school, these are the words he wrote:
Chorus
“I missed you.” etc.
II.
The
days they lengthened into weeks, the weeks to months and years,
And
eyes that looked down time and space were often filled with tears.
The
boy he grew to be a man, the girl a woman sweet,
But
fate and fortune’s cruel hand forbade that they should meet.
But
love will ever find a way if hearts are strong and true –
One
day he drifted home again down where the daisies grew;
He
found her waiting by the stream where woodland echoes rang,
And
gazing in her joy-lit eyes this old refrain he sang:
Chorus
“I
missed you.” etc.
