I
wish I were a pretty girl,
As pretty as could be;
Then
would the very homely ones
Just stop and envy me.
And
all the men who passed me by
Would turn around to see;
If
I were but a pretty girl,
As pretty as could be.
I
wish I were a pretty girl,
But I am not you see;
I’m
nothing but a homely man,
As homely as can be.
E’en
could I wed a pretty girl
I’d be alright, you see;
Alas!
I can’t; I am so plain
They will not look at me.
