While Going Along

It’s all right to save up for a rainy day,

     And salt all the shekels you can;

This advice has been spread before each little head,

     Since ever existence began.

It is well to look out for Number One,

     And keep on the right side of wrong;

But we mustn’t neglect, as some do I expect,

     To enjoy life in trav’lling along.

We mustn’t deny all the comforts we’d like,

     For the sake of the far by and by;

If we don’t have some fun while we’re still on the run,

     We certainly can’t when we die.

So let’s not be wasteful or spend too much time

     In riotous living and song;

But let’s not be small, and deny ourselves all,

     But have some fun going along.
