Taft
and T.R., once allies and best friends, had a falling out both politically and
personally, with Roosevelt forming his own party (Progressive - ‘Bull Moose’)
to run against Taft in 1912. Taft had won election in 1908, with T.R.’s
support, only to disappoint him. Roosevelt, in the meantime, took time off and
went to Europe (articles about his huge receptions there led this page) following
a year-long safari in Africa, starting in 1909.
