O,
Spring, will you excuse us, please
For everything we’ve writ
About
the winter and the fall,
We’ve made a mess of it.
We
got our dates mixed up, you see,
We thought the fall was due;
Instead
of springing winter songs
We should have sung of you!
You
see we followed calendar
And old-time almanac,
And
thought for sure ‘twas wintertime,
But now we take it back.
Hail
spring, most beautiful and fair,
Hail springtime, soft and sweet!
Hereafter
we will have a care
And not get off our beat.
