An Exuberant Walton

          The Departure

Good-bye old desk and office chair,
     Good-bye ye musty books;
Farewell old ink-pot, pens and shears.
     I’m off to fields and brooks!
Adieu ye stuffy counting room,
     Good-bye to weary brain;
Farewell to noisy city streets,
     I’m off to fish again!

            The Arrival

Hail distant mountains, blue and calm,
     Hail rivers rushing down;
The gleaming lake rounds into view –
     Two hundred miles from town.
Hooray! The guides, the boats, the shore,
     For God’s sake stop the train!
“Supper?” Away with worldly things,
     I’m off to fish again!
