The Moving Picture Show

It’s necessary nowadays
     To have a goat, you know;
Something to blame for everything
That causes any woe.
If happiness should drop around,
     Of that we’d make no note;
But when we’ve got some blame to place
     We’ve got to have a goat.

And so, when someone robs a bank,
     Or burns a building low,
We’re prone to put the blame upon
     The moving picture show.
If youngsters rob our trees of fruit,
     Or seeds of evil sow,
They must have got their knowledge in
     The moving picture show.

If pa is sent down to the store
     And lingers, then we know
He’s slipped around the corner to
     A moving picture show!
And so the old excuses pass,
     A new one comes, and so
Whenever lightning strikes it is
     The moving picture show!
