I’m
much obliged to Uncle Sam
For
makin’ me jes what I am.
He
makes the opportunity,
An’
I ain’t slow to seize it, see?
He
gives me freedom, knowledge, health,
Accomplishments,
profession, wealth,
An’
gives me culture, common sense,
An’
lots uv more without expense.
But
best uv all, these things so free
Are
given you as well as me;
For
Uncle Sam is good to all,
Who
on his blessed store-house call.
An’
I would fight for him because
He
shields me if I keep his laws,
He
brings me word from home or friend,
An’
carries back whate’er I send.
In
many other ways he’s good,
An’
would be better if he could;
An’
I want all to know I am
All
bound up in Uncle Sam.
