The
times have changed no doubt of that,
Since days of long ago;
There
was a time, I recollect,
When people welcomed snow.
But
now it is so different,
Wherever you may go,
When
skies are overcast you’ll hear:
“Gee whizz! I hope ‘twon’t snow!”
The
big policeman on the beat,
The letter carrier, too;
The
butcher man, the grocer man,
All make a big “to-do”.
The
auto-fiend has joined the ranks
And sounds his note of woe;
“We
do not mind the rain,” they say,
“If
only it won’t snow.”
Humanity
on every hand
Reviles the mantle white;
No
one appears to revel in
The fair and wondrous sight.
But
hold! There are a few who sing
Its praises soft and low;
The
poet cops a check or two
From poems writ on snow.
