Men

There’s the man who’s a slouch,
     And the man who’s a grouch,
And the man who is down on his luck;
     There’s the man who stands back
     Of the job-getting pack
Because he’s no patience or pluck.
     There’s the man prone to shirk
     In his every day work,
Who stays at the bottom alway;
     And the man who don’t care
     If he just gets his fare,
And gets through the easiest day.
     There’s the man who will lie
     Just to get himself by
And the man who has wonderful cheek;
     There’s the man who’s a brute
     And the man who is cute
And the man who is oily and sleek.

     But the man the world needs,
     And the man who succeeds,
Is the man who aims straight for the mark;
     The man who is bright
     And the man who does right,
And the man who won’t grumble or bark.
     A man has to be true
     To the task within view,
A man without      or guile;
     The man who will stick
     Through thin and through thick
Is the man who is really worthwhile.
     So just smile at your work,
     And don’t grumble or shirk,
Make the best of the path on your way;
     For the man the world needs,
     And the man who succeeds
Is the man who is charged for the fray.
