She
raised her lips for me to kiss –
Oh,
what a flash of coming bliss!
I
bent a little lower, so,
To
place it where it ought to go.
I
waited one brief instant then,
The
happiest of happy men,
To
drink the joy awaiting me
In
that one kiss of ecstasy,
When
lo! She changed her mind and hid
Her
face from me, that maiden did.
‘Twas
years ago; I’m wiser now,
I
never wait to drink, I vow,
When
lips to kiss are turned to me
I
close the contract instantly.
