I’ve
served my time on training ships,
In military schools;
Been
under naval discipline,
And strictest army rules.
But
the training of most value,
At least it seems to me
Was
that I got from mother when
I lay across her knee.
It
was there my shape was molded
(Made flatter now and then);
Tis
there they get their “pointers”,
The most successful men.
Ah!
yes, my boys, don’t murmur,
Because such things must be;
Your
mother strikes a fortune when
You lay across her knee.
