I.
You
came to me in a dream last night,
And laid your hand in mine;
And
you smoothed my face with a tender grace,
And my dream grew most divine.
But
I had a fear ‘twere only a dream,
That you soon would fade away;
And
for fear you might I held you tight,
And my hand it aches today.
II.
You
sat with me in a dream last night,
And you oped your heart to me;
And
at last I knew that you love me true,
And my heart beat warm and free.
But
I had a fear ‘twere only a dream,
A dream that would fade away;
And
at golden dawn I found you gone,
And my heart it aches today.
