Some Summer Quatrains

             The Changeable Man

O, isn’t life a funny thing?
      Eight months ago you loudly swore
You’d give a lot to find a spot
      Where you could get warm once more.

         More Rhyme than Reason

A picnic is a lively prance,
      For quiet little boys, perchance,
When they alas! Sit on the grass
      And get their pants chock full of ants.

         Passing Flowers

How doth the little busy bee
      Drain every flower to its dregs,
Then change its ways, leave bright bouquets,
      Forget-me-nots on Johnnie’s legs.

         The Modern Sampsoness

The summer girl is strong they say,
      She surely is, we must admit,
To break a dozen hearts a day,
      And show no outward signs of it.

         Not a Remote Case

“Ice cream is good for invalids,”
      He heard the doctor say, he did;
And since that night young Johnny, bright,
      Has been a partial invalid.

         Along the Beach

That calves are fond of water too,
      As well as milk, I’m prone to think;
It must be true because we knew
      So many standing in the drink.
