Speed Away

For Sale: A lot of useless cars both new and up to date,
Comprised of Pullman sleepers and day coaches, minus freight;
A million tons of rolling stock from Boston to New York –
The Glidden Airship Company is ready to uncork.

Just think! A rail-less railway line from Gotham to the Hub,
A passage to and fro so quick one will not have to grub.
One’s dinner in old Boston and the theatre in New York;
The Glidden Airship Company is ready to uncork.

One steps in on the Common and steps out in Madison Square;
One looks down on his fellow man while sailing through the air.
Closer than e’er united will be Boston and New York –
The Glidden Airship Company is ready to uncork.

Charles Jasper Glidden (August 29, 1857 - September 11, 1927) was an American telephone pioneer, financier and supporter of the automobile in the United States. Charles Glidden, with his wife Lucy, were the first (in 1902) to circle the world in an automobile, and repeated the feat in 1908.
From 1908 he began also to promote aviation. He praised the Lighter than Air technology (balloon flight) and was of the opinion that private planes would be similarly ubiquitous as motorcycles.
     Charles Glidden was also President of the Aerial Navigation Company, formed to build and operate "airships" between Boston and New York. The company was the first such organization created in the world indicating once again Mr. Glidden's foresight in investing in modem technology.
