At The Stations

There are gatherings at the stations like you never saw before,
     There are gatherings at the stations night and day;
There are crowds old and young
Native born and foreign tongue
     Just because the soldier boys are going away.

There is cheering at the stations as the trains go rolling past,
     There is cheering at the stations night and day;
Crowds admire soldiers true
Like they always ought to do,
     And they cheer them just because they’re going away.

There is weeping at the stations as the trains are pulling out,
     There is weeping at the stations night and day;
There are mothers, sisters, wives,
Who are fearful for the lives
Of the soldiers who are going far away.

There are gatherings at the stations like you never saw before,
     There are gatherings at the stations night and day;
              There is laughter, there are cheers,
              There are brave and silent tears
Just because the soldier boys are going away.
