Moodus An’ Her ‘Lectric Lights

Moodus stan’s arrayed et night
‘Neath th’ modern ‘lectric light;
Lights that show her blushin’ smiles
To the multitude for miles.
All her deeds uv sin an’ shame,
An’ her acts uv noble aim,
Nightly now will be unfurled
An’ exposed to all the world.

Bold highwaymen an’ the like
Darker scenes will hev to strike;
An’ the owls thet hoot at eve
Now will be obleeged to leave.
Lovers ridin’ side by side
Where the darkness uster hide
All their acts of “tootsy-woo”
Now won’t know jes what to do.

But we musn’t o’erlook its
Many laastin’ benefits.
Thrifty wimmin ‘neath the lights
Kin go huckleber’in’ nights
An’ the center’s boun’ to be
Gayer than brilliant Paree.
An no use will she hev soon
For the ol’ col’ blooded moon.

While the worl’ will switch its eyes
To the sparklin’ parrerdise.
Shine, O, lan’ uv my delight,
Down the ges day an’ night;
Shine, O Moodus, shine afar,
Brighter than the biggest star.
An’ when towns beyond are named
Thall halt be the one most famed!
