(The Cow Club 1 25 08)
The
Cow Club gethers ev’ry night
In Stokes’ grocery store,
To
set around the stove an’ talk
Important matters o’er.
For
there are many, many things
Which must be settled there;
An’
this the Cow Club does each night
With thoroughness an’ care.
The
railroad hez to take its turn,
An’ then the trolley, which
Hez
not arrived, although it will
Ef there’s no legal hitch.
The
doin’s down in Washin’ton,
All questions great or small;
The
bizniz boom, the great canal,
The Cow Club raps them all.
Marconi’s
wireless is a thing
Thet’s jest got up to sell,
Them
air machines will never fly,
They know thet purty well.
An’
when they’ve b’en all round the globe,
An’ got each other straight,
They
come back into Gungawamp
To finish their debate.
The
same ol’ questions hol’ the floor,
The same old nightly boast;
“Who
gits the biggest mess uv milk,
Whose cow is wuth the most?”
There’s
where they hem an’ hitch an’ haw,
An’ finally collide;
Thet
seems to be the on’y thing
The Cow Club can’t decide.
What
tho’ the wintry winds blow cold,
An’ snow is on the ground;
What
tho’ the rain beats hard an’ fast,
The Cow Club gits around.
Fur
how could things be run at home,
An; things abroad galore,
Ef
this same Cow Club didn’t meet
Each night at Sokes’s store?
