My Eddycashun

I wus never shot through college,
Uv the place, I hev no knowledge,
But I’ve l’arnt a thing or two
Which will boost me this life through.
I hev l’arnt folks bar’ly say
Common sense six times per day;
Talk is cheaper than the air,
Full uv germs an’ everywhere.
I hev l’arnt that ‘tis th’ best
T’ hol’ yer bus’ness in yer vest;
Keep yer doin’s to yer self,
Tuck ‘em way back on th’ shelf.
I hev l’arned thet one kind word,
Spoke to man or beast or bird,
Does more good to every kind
Than the wealth uv all combined.
I hev l’arned thet gittin’ high
Jes depen’s how much we try;
Gen’us don’t amount ter shuck
‘Less we back it up ‘ith pluck.
Now I’ve l’arnt the smoothest way
To exis’ frum day to day:
Don’t know much ‘bout this’n that,
Be es cautious es a cat.
Listen well to other folks,
Take the’r needle-p’inted jokes;
Don’t git mad an’ howl an’ dance
At the’r blissful ignorance.
All these “rubs” thet tech yer pride
Live ‘em down an’ let ‘em slide;
Foller out these things in part
An’ yew’ll hev a rich ol’ heart.
