want a cheaper novel ‘cause we can’t afford to pay
The
high-folutin’ prices they are charging us today.
We
figger that a dollar and a half is much too much;
The
way they keep the price up, why it simply beats the Dutch.
We
paid that sum for “Sapho”, and for Elinor’s “Three Weeks”,
“The
Yoke” it cost us ditto, and it’s here our conscience squeaks.
They’re
good enough at half the price or bad enough, egad!
We
want some cheaper novels and we want ‘em very bad.
