Old Santa Claus on Christmas eve
Came down the chimney black;
And when he saw her stockings there
He started to go back.
“O. my!” said he, and o’er his face
There came a funny smirk;
“II cannot put these presents here,
There’s too much open
work.”
And so he left a note which read,
“Leave presents I don’t
dare;
Next Christmas eve hang up some hose
Like mother used to wear.”
