I’ve
sung of the girls who play at golf,
Of the girls who fish and shoot;
I’ve
sung of the maid who’s not afraid
To pose in her bathing suit.
I’ve
sung of the girl who weds a duke,
And lives in a palace hall;
And
the footlight maids with their lights and shades
I’ve sung of them, one and all.
But
now I will sing in a soft refrain
Of the girl you would like to know;
The
girl who can cook without paper or book,
The girl who can darn and sew.
The
girl who never went far from home,
Who is void of all social schemes;
Who’s
homely and neat, old fashioned and sweet,
The girl you see in your dreams.
