The Wayside Philosopher

I love the roar of the railroad trains
     As they thunder by each day;
I sit on the fence with unconcern
     And chew on my wisp of hay.

There are thousands ride on the railroad trains,
     On pleasure and business bent;
They ride all night and they ride all day,
     And it doesn’t cost me a cent.
