A Young Cornetist

My mah took me to town one day,
     An’ there upon a busy street,
I heard a little street-band play
     Music that to me wus sweet.
The cornet’s brassy blare I heard,
     An’ I wus captured on the spot;
A new desire within me stirred –
     All else in life was soon forgot.
My usual peaceful sleep wus killed,
     Before my vision cornets danced;
An’ w’en I woke my mind wus filled
     With streets where noisy bra-bands pranced.
Mah bought me one at last an’ I
     Wus king uv all the village boys,
Alas!! I puffed my lips sky-high,
     But couldn’t mke a tarnal noise.
