Savages, Past And Present

The savage of the fading past
     A lordly grandeur felt,
When he could count a dozen scalps
     Hung loosely from his belt.
The savage of the present day
     Thinks he’s among the arts,
When he can dangle from his belt
     A dozen female hearts.
